Male Wilson, the Mukono South MP aspirant running on the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket during a meeting with the party’s executive requested country presidential hopeful, Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu to appoint him as the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Husbandry once he takes over power after the 2021 elections.
The request was made in Magere, Wakiso district at the home of Mr. Sentamu during a meeting with the party’s executive, together with other flag bearers to discuss the Party’s way forward in the upcoming 2021 elections. The meeting was convened by NUP Secretary-General, Lewis Rubongoya.
Over 200 parliamentary flag bearers attended and forwarded their individual agendas in respect to the constituency they were contesting for in a bid to ensure that their voices, plans, and agendas were included in the broader party manifesto. Among other things presented, lack of a good education system was presented, poor road network, underfunding to the health ministry and agriculture, were inclusive.
Mr. Male presented the plight of fishermen to the party’s executive stating the old laws governing the fishing sector, mistreatment of the fishermen, poor utilization of the lake as well as lack of market for produce at which point he made the request.
“Being a farmer, born of farmers, and a grandson of farmers, I know the problems encountered by farmers, fishermen, and those in animal rearing. However, I feel I can do more to meet their needs, of which I am party to since I am a farmer myself if I am appointed as the Minister of Agriculture. I, therefore, request Mr. Sentamu to consider my request when the time is due,” Male said.
Mr. Sentamu promised to consider his request when victory is assured after the 2021 elections. This came as he thanked the flag bearers for attending the meeting and as well promised to consider MP-elect, Betty Nambooze the position of Speaker of Parliament, a request she too made during the meeting.
